Quilt for Tiza

Tiza is my niece, she's 5 y.o...she's a smart little girl, she loves swimming...
For her 5th birthday that was on May 7th, I've made this quilt for her.  But at the same time I've started the quilt, I finally got pregnant, so as you can guess, I just finished the quilt last November :)   At the first trimester, my mood was upside down for sewing so I didn't do any sewing activities.  The second trimester, I got it back and started doing some of sewing challenges and in between tried to finish Tiza's quilt.

Well, the theme of this quilt is of course something related to water activity.  She loves water, she drinks a lot of water too like me, and she does love swimming... So, a girl doing snorkeling with a lighthouse at the beach as the background, and a seabed with some sea creatures are the appliques that I drew and made for her quilt.  I really hope it will inspire her more :)

It's a big challenge for me, the final size is 54"x90" ... But I did enjoy the process of making it :)
Here are more details...

I love the seagulls hovering near the lighthouse under the bright blue sky and a white cloud.

I imagine soon when Tiza is big enough she will challenge herself to swim or snorkel at the beach or sea :)

That the seabed with a starfish, a crab, some seaweeds, corals, and fishes :)
I just did stitch on the ditch for the quilting, for sure I still unable to tame my simple automatic Singer sewing machine for doing FMQ :(  hope next project I can do that.
This quilt will be sent to Tiza next March, when my mom return to Indonesia after my baby's birth that will be due on 9 February 2013 :)

See you and happy sewing!

Finally, a Diapers Stacker!

I made this diapers stacker, finally!  After only keep on delaying for being to scared to cut the fabric :D ... I didn't find any good tutorial for this or maybe I am not good at all to read those tutorial available online :( ... I  cut a newspaper and made a diapers stacker prototype out of it just to make sure my imagination met the outcome.  For the size, I checked it out from the online sellers' products and adjusting accordingly.  The final size of mine is 20" height, 12" width, and 8" depth!

Until last month we visited my hubby's friend whose baby just 5 months old and will need diapers until 2 years old for sure, since his wife is a career woman and will have no time for washing the reusable diaper :D  I hope they will like it and use it once it's delivered next week ;)  Take a look!

This is the close up image of the top...I did needle turn applique for the name initial *hahah new sewing vocabulary for me though I did the method before*  And I did crescent stitch with the machine to attach the bottom and the top parts.  I love the white lace, it really gives a baby girl touch!

That 'M' stands for Malavika...a cute and active baby girl...hope it will compliment her pinky crib :)  And if she won's wear diapers any longer, this stacker can be used to keep her dolls :)

The last one - 3

This is the last one... She loves that Rumi's quote...I think I like his quotes as well, very soft and touching.  This time I really asked her which quote she likes, so I can make a wall-art for her.

She chose this nice one, "Let the beauty of what you love be what you do."  This words will work for her who loves sewing.  I did stem stitch for the words and put flowers, loves, and leaves appliques as the embellishment.

Happy sewing!

Water Gallon Cover

It was an order from a friend, long time back, but just remembered I haven't posted it.  I tried to make it with an Indian touch.  Not so happy with the sewing but for sure I took the picture from the right angle.  I love the elephant as always, I drew it and put the leaves around.  I did reverse applique and it was my first attempt, then did running stitch around the appliques.  Just take a look.

Now, you can see the leaves :)

Happy sewing :)

A Wall-Art to open 2012

Not to late to start blogging again right? Yes, I was out of Mumbai for 2 months, to visit my home country, Indonesia, then there were Christmas and New Year, following with another trip to my husband's hometown in Kerala.  So, it's clear enough to explain why I didn't updating my blog :(

But, I was still doing some small projects in between.  I also joined a sewing class for a month in Surabaya, where my parents are staying in Indonesia.  I was so excited but since I don't have my own sewing machine there :( I just able to learn how to make dress pattern.  I will post the snaps of what I've learned there soon.

Now, let me show you what I've made for my hubby's best friend's little daughter :)  Her name is Alexis, and they call her Lexi.  She's 6 months old, so cute, and cheerful baby.  I made a wall-art for her.  Her mother is an American and father is Indian and they are staying there in Oklahoma.  They came for a month to Kerala to visit Lexi's grandma.  So we flew from Mumbai to Thrissure to meet them.  I bought a cute purple dress for the little Lexi and as an additional gift, I made a wall-art for her.

Yes, it's an elephant, my favorite animal, I chose elephant because it might represent India, an elephant country :)   I drew the elephant which was about to be carried away by four balloons.  There are four balloons with L-E-X-I spelling on each of it.  Her parents said that the wall-art will be great on her nursery room, really hope they'll like it :)

I got a little problem with the binding, it's not so perfect,  so little time to finish the project, hope it's forgiven :(

Bunting Flag for Keya

Another bunting flag...but this one for Baby Keya...my hubby's friend's daughter, she's around 6 months old and I've never seen her :(   But, I believe she's cute and beautiful like all Indian babies :)

First bunting flag I made was for baby Willy, a dear friend's handsome baby boy :)  I made a triangle shaped one for Willy.  Now as a change, I did a little bit experiments by changing the shape into curve one.  My gender thought kept on suggesting that triangle works for boys while curve will be look more girly heheh...

I chose pink fabric for sure, as all mommies will prefer pink for their little girl.  Oh yeah, I checked here that Keya means Asian Flower and it's an Indian origin name, a beautiful name for a beautiful girl :)  So, flower will be perfect as the applique that I put before the name and a butterfly in the end of the row.  This time, I decided to use bias tape to hold the name, well take a look!

See you at my next posting :) ...

I Can't Live Without Books

"I Can't Live Without Books!" .... Yes! It's the famous quote from Thomas Jefferson, one of the founding fathers and the third president of USA.

I was thinking to make a birthday gift for anyone who loves to read books, all kind of books, I would say.  Digging my creativity, I chose an owl as we all know this bird represents wisdom, art and scholarship...so an owl reading a book will be a cool idea with Thomas Jefferson's quote at the right side!  I drew the owl on a paper and made it as a pattern to cut the fabric.  A combination of blue and yellow fabric for the owl and quilting around it would be great.

Actually, I planned to make a pillow cover out of it...and it was a pillow cover just ready to have final stitching, but my husband protested, "I thought you gonna make a wall hanging art, stop stitching!"  Hurriedly, he took off a painting out of its frame and put the sewn owl on it...and voila! check it out!  It's now become an art!

The eliminated painting is now kept for a while until we buy another frame for it :) anyway my hubby didn't really like it, it's an abstract and too abstract without any meaning on it :D   Well, now it's hanging there above my bookshelf, and I really have to make another one to be kept for a birthday gift later on ;)

Mom and Daughters Apron Set

A dear friend really wanted to have matching apron set with her two daughters :)  As a cooking lover, her two daughters that seem to enjoy helping their mom cooking and baking, having matching apron is such a great idea.  She said she wanted to have one with "mama" written on the apron and of course name on her daughters'.  She chose to have yellow color this time.

I am playing with rickrack border this time, it's a gift from dear friend who also loves to sew.  An ice cream applique for Cindy and a burger one for Fanny.  For Mama, I did chain stitch to make the embroidery of dough roller, a whisk, and hat chef, with a note written,"#1 Chef" on the hat.

See you at my next project!

First tote bag and crayon roll

I prefer to make and sew something related to children's stuffs.  This time I made a tote bag and a crayon roll for Amanda, as my gift for her fourth birthday party.  Another reason of making this gift is because my friend has ordered the apron as her gift for Amanda :) so I have to find what another handmade to give.  The idea of making it I got from a famous online handmade shop.  I decided to choose blue and yellow since I was a little bit bored with pink color :D  Too many pink fabric I played around for the aprons set.  I was feeling like, enough is enough :D

I really love this bag and crayon roll set, it really is a perfect gift for a little girl.  Amanda loves drawing and she always joins her mom visiting her friends.  I imagined, she can carry her drawing book, the crayon roll, a story book, and one activity book along and enjoy her time while she has to wait for her mom having her tea time with her fellow ladies :)

Check out the picture, I really like the name tag I put there :) instead of embroidered it on the bag ;)

Bunting Flag for Baby Willy

Yep...finally I made a bunting flag...really love this stuff, I am thinking it will be beautiful to hang it at your baby's room's wall above the crib...was so excited to make it when a friend of mine, Vera, said her baby's nickname is WILLY...cute name for a handsome baby boy :)  So, I sewn that bunting flag to welcome the newborn Willy.  To make it easy, I use felt fabric for applique.  I think a car and a plane represent boy's character.  Really hope Willy's mommy will like it :)

Another Apron :)

This time the apron is for Farah...a cute daughter of my new friend.  From what I know, I've never met Farah, her father is an Italian chef working for a five star hotel here in Mumbai.  Her mother interested with the aprons I made for Tifanny and Cindy.  Well, Farah loves pink like other little princesses :) and she likes strawberry.

By mistake, I didn't sew the strawberry applique right at the center of the pocket, and it was too tricky if I have to open and redo the stitching.  So, I decided to make a mitten and a potholder as an alternative.  I learned how to make the oven mitten from this blog, visit her site to get a clear and detail explanation :)  Now I have to make also the potholder pairs for Tifanny and Cindy :D ... Check them out :)

Fany & Cindy in aprons set

Here's the pics of Fany and Cindy in aprons and chef hat.  I've put the pics of apron only on the previous post.  After asked permission from Vera, their mom, now I upload their pics in my blog.  Vera said they were so happy with the apron and couldn't wait to wear it.  At the first day, they took the flour and started to make a dough, mommy of course couldn't say no :)
Then, Fany wanted to make pizza on the next day.  I am so happy that they love to wear it.  It seems they're going to be Vera's kitchen's next masterchefs ;)

It's the last but not the last

Yupe...it's my last project of 2010 but not the last for sure for there are more and more ideas will flow in 2011...

A sweet friend interested with aprons I sewed for my niece and nephew.  She wanted two sets of apron and the hat chef for her two cute daughters, Tiffany and Cindy.  These two little girls love those Disney princesses and for sure like other girls, they love pink color.  I chose this pink fabric for both of them and tried to combined with different appliques and apron designs.  Thus, I have two different styles of apron.  Check them out....

Here's for Tiffany, really love the cupcake with its colorful sequins detail as the sweet sprinkles.

This one is for Cindy, simple but really cute watermelon with black seed that matches the black chain embroidery for the name on the hat.

I sent it yesterday and hope will reach them today, and really really hope the aprons will fit them and they love to wear it while helping their mom.  Oh yeah, this dear friend is a real cook, she loves to cook and she really can cook ;)

handmade on them

I think I have to show off my niece and nephew photos when they wearing my handmade.
These are Tiza and Jascha in their apron, well forget about the size, I was a real amateur even didn't call home for their size heheheh ... what an aunty :D but they love it and now always willing to help their moms to cook just for the sake of wearing the apron and chef hat.

Below is Tiza wearing my first peasant blouse, it fits her perfectly.

Tiza again, she's wearing my first properly stitched dress when I joined a month sewing course nearby my home ;)

Then, it's Jascha, he's wearing his PJ ... well I sewed this PJ because my online tutor heheh I meant friend, Phiphi kept on asking me to try sewing one ;) well not bad I think.

More Upcycled Jeans

It's a continued story of old jeans project being upcycled into new one ;)  I finished the boxy and wrislet purses more than two weeks ago but so lazy to take the pictures...huhh bother!  My hubby was out of town so what else should I do, didn't need to cook much so I ended up in front of my PC and sewing machine.

My dear friend made her boxy pouch before and show it off to me and it challenged me to make one too.  But instead of using interface and for the sake of practicing how to stitch a zipper, I used the old jeans.  I was thinking if it failed nothing to lose heheheh...*stingy mode on*.  I got the tute from this blog.  It's so easy to follow and you can see the result below.  Trying to have my touch on it, I cut the middle part of fabric into heart shape and put red/white stripes fabric then did running stitch with white thread.

It's easy to dare me, once I want to do something than I will try my best to make or finish it.  Finished with the boxy one, I continued with the wrislet.  This time I don't have any tute.  I used the cuff of the jeans as the handle to be hassle free from stitching the thick jeans - broke two needles for this wrislet project :(   Then again I cut the jeans to make several flower petals and did running stitch on it with red thread.  For the anther I stitched red beads on it.  I sew two pockets inside it, one for my Ipod another for my cellphone.  Check out their pics.

Old Jeans Craft

Checking the wardrobe, full of old clothes, and I found some pairs of my husband' jeans. He said, "I want to cut and get knee length jeans to wear at home." Heheheh, he returned from the tailor with three pairs of jeans cut-off, yeehaw!

So, I cut here and there wanted to make a sewing machine cover, after so many thinking and mistakes, I ended up made the simple plan into complicated one. It took almost three days to finish it, since I had to check my farm in between :D and did the house chores. What I like from this project is that I learned to make patchwork and hand stitch applique at the same time, ohh and also learned to change and use different kind of needles for my sewing machine ;) Check it out!

Apron and Hat for Chef Tiza

Finally I able to finish my another project, huuuhhh so tired :D...even I don't have any idea now what to write about this apron and chef hat for Tiza, my niece. To make it short, I just used my imagination to make this apron and chef hat, no pattern that I peek from somebody's else project. For sure, it was really a trial and error but I am so satisfied with my work. For the neck tie, I used a little bit elastic just to make sure it will fit to Tiza's neck and velcro to button it, so she can help herself when wearing it.
Aren't God great that He bless us with this brain better than any other animals ;) Even I stitched Tiza's name on the hat...OMG I am so happy, it's really my masterpiece :D *arrogant mode On* hehhehe. Oh ya I used interfacing paper to make the hat stiff, what do you think? Not bad at all right for a beginner? :D
Below is close up of the apron's pocket, just try to be simple by making yo-yo flowers, since the main fabric has colorful pattern of polkadots :)
The last picture is the inside and behind part of the hat. I also used elastic since I used standart head size for 3 years-old girl, 18", but in case it's not big enough, the elastic will help :)

Now, I can't wait to see her wear them and helping her mommy making cookies and bread for her customers :)
